Pack Leader of The Week

Each week or so we gather together in our Tribal Council and either randomly select or vote for (off) one of the remaining members of our classroom to be the Pack Leader of the Week (P. L. O. T. W.)  The honor and duties of the P. L. O. T. W. include, but are not limited to,  being the line leader, running errands, leading the Pledge of Allegiance, distributing mail and lunch tokens, and getting a cold pop and candy bar.

Episode #26

After a eventful final tribal council (thank you CSm for the never-to-be-forgotten emotional Q & A), the Castaways proceded to write a final name down on their voting slip.  This time it wasn't to vote someone off, it was to award one of their peers the title of "Ultimate Survivor" for their efforts & participation in Meyer Island Survivor.  The voting was incredibly close, but this years Final Castaway was TnG & the Ultimate Survivor was ND!  Congratulations on a fantastic year, excellent sportsmanship, hard work, enthusiasm, determination, cooperation, contemplation, calculation, consideration, communication, and excitement that you all brought every day to make this the best school year ever!

Final Survior ND!

Runner-Up TnG!

Episode #25

It has come down to the final three.  After an arduous immunity challenge (Didgerdoo) the castaways were asked to vote on which "unknown" participant best played the Didgerdoo in their alloted time. TnG won immunity and chose to bring ND to the final two.  Congrats to SM, who gave it her best effort, even in spite of a broken leg for most of this quarter!  Congrats!

Episode #24

The Final Four was set with a seemingly airtight alliance of ND, TnG, SB, and AM.  These survivors had often spoke in tribal council of how difficult it was to vote off one of their friends.  They even proposed the idea of splitting the title of Ultimate Survivor four ways.  Alas, it was not meant to be.  The immunity challenge involved our pvc marshmallow shooter and personalized targets for each of the remaining survivors.  The boys were mercilessly picked off first.  It came down to the last shot between SB and AM.  SB scored the target first, ensuring her a spot in the final 3.  Tribal council was intense as the castaways didn't want their run to end.  In the end it was AM who became this week's Pack Leader.  Congrats on a great run!

Episode #23

The immunity challenge this week was an accuracy sling shot paint ball challenge.  The final group of survivors has grown quite close and requested no witnesses.  Due to SM being ill, the most recent Pack Leader, MC, filled in for her.  Thank goodness for SM, as MC won immunity with her "dead eye" accuracy.  Congrats to CSm, this week's Pack Leader.  She was the consensus favorite, and I think that made the others quite nervous.  Enjoy your PLOTW booty!

Episode #22

This week's challenge whittled down the final six to five survivors remaining. Students were broken into two heats and given a puzzle to complete.  The finals included ND & TnG.  Immunity was grasped by TnG by completing the "Lucky 7" puzzle.  Congrats to MC, this week's Pack Leader.  She was a very strong competitor, winning individual immunity twice!

Episode #21

Down to seven, with SM being hobbled with a cast, what immunity challenge will the castaways face this week?  Tune in and find out!  A challenging immunity competition of trivia & multiplication facts left CSm with the immunity necklace.  Tribal council was extremely lengthy as many castaways voiced their feelings on the game, strategy, and voting pressure from "outsiders."  The remaining survivors appear to be a close-knit group that is really having trouble voting for each other.  Unfortunately there must be a Pack Leader and CD is that castaway this week.  Congrats and enjoy your PLOTW booty!

Episode #20

Well, it was a wild ride while it lasted.  TMo, the very first castaway voted back into the game, made it to the final eight.  Voting was scattered, and there has been talk of an alliance, but this week we congratulate TMo as the first ever two time Pack Leader!  Congrats also to MC this week's immunity challenge winner.

Episode #19

A very tough math challenge this week ended with ND & NC in the finals.  After the voting concluded, this week's runner-up in the immunity challenge is this week's Pack Leader.  Congrats NC!

Episode #18

The stakes are getting higher as the end of the year approaches.  The potential of more academic immunities led the castaways to vote off AS.  Congratulations on a fantastic run through the game.

Episode #17

Conspiracy?  TyG couldn't wait to find out the results of the vote and peeked in the voting basket.  Might this start a run of boys being voted off?  Hmmm.  Girls Alliance?  Congratulations to TyG for all his hard work and efforts.

Episode #16

This week students were winding down for 3rd quarter and gearing up for Spring Break.  We had two immunity challenges.  The first sent Tic Tac (3T) to tribal council.  It seems that every subsequent tribal council is incredibly painful, since every remaining survivor is very deserving to "win" our contest.  On a tie-breaker formula KY was voted our first Pack Leader.  The second immunity challenge was won by Tic Tac and JeP became the second Pack Leader for the week.  The "game" changes to individual competitions and the stakes become higher.  It'll be interesting to note the how the highly competitive nature and strong interpersonal skills the survivors have developed throughout this year play out in our last few weeks.  Congrats KY and JeP!

Episode #15

Well it was a harried week as March Madness kicked off.  Students were eagerly anticipating the interdisciplinary project.  They put their working time to good use in the computer lab researching their universities.  On Tuesday students participated in a reward challenge.  Sharkbait won the mascot recall game and with it the reward of "stealing" a member from another group.  ND was sent packing from Mt. Wannahockaloogi.  On Wednesday students were rewarded for their hard work and focus with an immunity challenge.  The speediness of TMo, CSm, and TnG propelled Dr. Pepper to immunity in the ropes course challenge.  Unfortunately, the dual Pack Leader status continued this week to decrease our numbers to a manageable amount for the last round of Meyer Island Survivor.  So Congratulations to EM and DB, this week's co-pack leaders.  Enjoy your PLOTW booty!

Episode #14

A double tribal council again took place this week to catch up on diminishing weeks remaining in the school year.  The students participated in the pass the coconut (ala hot potato) challenge.  The final outcome was two destroyed coconuts and Mt. Wannahockaloogi gaining immunity.  Congrats to our Co-Pack Leaders JuP and KW.  Enjoy your PLOTW booty!

Episode #13

We are quickly running behind on weeks left in the year, so this week's challenge (blind folded race, mixed up message, and telephone trivia) yielded shared immunity between Dr. Pepper and Triple T.  Congrats to one of our Pack Leaders this week, TN!  Enjoy your PLOTW booty!

The second tribal council was finally held and Mt. Wannahockaloogi is now down to four members with CSt as the Co-Pack Leader this week.  Congratulations!

Episode #12

The new tribes had an immunity challenge this week that contained spelling and the wheelbarrow race. Congrats to LH, this week's Pack Leader!

Episode #11

New tribes!  The kids are still working on their new tribe names, but we do have four tribes and one group of "outsiders" to compete in the remaining group challenges.  Before the castaways learned of their new tribes, the former Pack Leaders gathered for a special tribal council.  Each had the opportunity to present their case to their peers about why they deserved to be voted back into the game.  Well, the vote was closer than one might've thought, and congratulations to TMo who is back in the game!  The first immunity challenge facing the new tribes was to build the tallest freestanding tower out of limited materials in a short amount of time.  Congrats to the Tic-Tac Tribe who go home with immunity this week!

Episode #10

This was the last challenge for the original tribes.  Next week we'll be switching things around with a new mix of personalities!  The final immunity was won by Sky Rockets!  This week the kids participated in a spelling bee relay.  Our lucky Pack Leader ended up being a young lady that wanted to be voted off, so her wish has been granted.  Congrats to KB!  Enjoy your treasure & PLOTW status!

Episode #9

This week we were at the museum participating in the Big Science Lesson.  We discovered some disappointing news.  GFri will be leaving Meyer Island and moving to another state.  Before he goes, we wanted him to enjoy the benefits of being packleader, so enjoy your PLOTW booty!  We'll miss you GFri!  Good Luck in the Show Me State!

Episode #8

We had a short week in Survivor time, we voted twice this week.  Our immunity challenge this week was the ski walk.  Teams worked diligently to master working as one in walking together on 8 ft. long skis in groups of three.  Congrats to Purple People Eaters for hanging onto the coveted immunity idol.  Finally, HWeb got his wish and became our pack leader.  I'm not sure if it was his strategy, but he has asked the class to vote him off and they wouldn't yield to his wishes.  It is a strategy reminiscent of JMil a classmate of his brother T, go figure!  Congrats and enjoy your Pack Leader booty!

Episode #7

This week in gym students have been working on hockey skills, thus we had a hockey themed immunity challenge.  We had three great games, the first went into a shoot-out with Blazing Flames sparking past the Purple People Eaters.  Game #2 had the Sky Rockets blasting past a short-handed Teal Titans.  The final game ended up with the Blazing Flames regaining the coveted immunity idol yet once again.  Congrats to all especially TyG for a great showing of sportsmanship from the sidelines!

Our first set of votes were tossed out due to loose chad.  Just kidding, we had a number of votes for Mr. Meyer and members of the Blazing Flames.  Thus, we had a second immunity challenge using trivia and our "Jeopardy" system.  It came down to the last question as the Purple People Eaters edged out the Teal Titans. Our vote ended up with a surprise islander who became our newest castaway.  Congrats to TMo, I know she is counting on getting back into the game as a member of the outcast tribe!

Episode #6

This week we had an immunity challenge that was quite entertaining.  We started out with a bluff of "Bloody Knuckles" and once the students' eyes became the size of saucers, I announces that I was just kidding.  The real immunity challenge was an "underwater" challenge, where if you talked, you were eliminated.  We had four students who "survived" the day, CSm, JeP, TMo, and TyG.  Congrats to those four as they had immunity.

HW's pleas to be voted off went unheeded as we had a tie for voting.  Once we went to the tie-breaker of previous votes, there was still a tie.  LK asked the class to be voted off so she could be with KP, her tribe mate.  Her compassion earned her the coveted Pack Leader of the Week status.  Congrats LK, you are a great friend!

Episode #5

This week we had an immunity challenge based on a game the students have been playing in gym class.  It involves bowling pins and sponge balls.  The object is to knock down your opponent's pins before yours.  There was a bit of controversy, but after a review of the video by the replay judge in the booth, Purple People Eaters finally won immunity!

Congrats to this week's Pack Leader - KPow.  Enjoy your PLOTW booty!

Episode #4

This week we gained a new student, a big welcome to GFri!  We have been finishing up the 5 Themes Presentations video process.  We have many creative youngsters.  The immunity challenge this week was a blow gun challenge.  The Sky Rockets were the first tribe eliminated, since they'd hung onto the immunity idol for the last two weeks and their competition thought that was long enough!  We ended the day in a draw with shared immunity between Blazing Flames and the Teal Titans.  Congratulations to all for their participation and show of sportsmanship!

Wow, what a surprise on voting.  The Sky Rockets tribe, which has won immunity the last two weeks, became the tribe of choice for many votes.  So I'd like to congratulate BW as this week's PLOTW.  Enjoy your Pack Leader booty!

Episode #3

This week's immunity challenge was a spelling bee.  The survivor "twist" was that each student in their tribe could only say one letter of the word.  It proved to be rather challenging, and a frequent feedback in the post-challenge reflection was that listening, focus, and cooperation were all important skills that the castaways will practice for the next spelling bee challenge.  The Sky Rockets hung onto the immunity idol again this week.  Congratulations to JAbb who is the Pack Leader this week!  Enjoy your PLOTW booty!

Episode #2

This week students continued to work on their 5 Themes of Geography / Fairy Tale projects and were getting the "itch" to try another immunity challenge.  The Teal Titans in particular after having one of their own voted off had renewed vigor and commitment to work together cooperatively.  This week's immunity challenge was a timed challenge to discover the hidden immunity idol in our classroom.  Each of the four groups had excellent times compared to years past, with three groups succeeding in under one minute!  The immunity idol goes home this week with the Sky Rockets who found the sneaky idol in 4 seconds!  Congrats!

This week's PLOTW is JWil.  Congrats on being our second pack leader!  Enjoy your PLOTW booty!

Episode #1

After a month of building our learning community, students have been clamoring for challenges.  We've completed a number of group reward challenges, but they have a competitive spirit about them.  This week's reward challenge was the fallen teammate rescue.  The Teal Titans burned up the track in ferrying their "injured" colleague around the gym.  Congrats to all the groups for showing such sportsmanship before, during, and especially after the challenge.

This week's immunity challenge included the "infamous 8-Legged Race" in which students were joined at the hips, one might say, and raced across the course.  Then one member was blindfolded and proceeded to stack a pyramid of cans with the vocal guidance of his / her peers.  Once again, it was an exciting experience which provided a real world context for two of our four "C's" - Communicate & Cooperate.  My next "C" is Congratulations to the Blazing Flames for successfully completing the immunity challenge first!

This week's voting was influenced by one castaway's desire for the PLOTW reward booty of a cold soda pop and a candy bar.  So Congrats to "Nickel", our first pack leader of the 2003 - 2004 school year!
