Pack Leader of The Week
Each week or so we gather together in our Tribal Council and either randomly
select or vote for (off) one of the remaining members of our classroom to be the
Pack Leader of the Week (P. L. O. T. W.) The honor and duties of the P. L.
O. T. W. include, but are not limited to, being the line leader, running
errands, leading the Pledge of Allegiance, distributing mail and lunch tokens,
and getting a cold pop (or juice) and candy bar (or healthy snack).

The Final Three
This final week of school found MD, SR, and HS as the final
three survivors. The tribal council this year was a bit different, not
just the final two remained, but instead all three survivors pleaded their cases
and answered questions from their classmates. The voting was difficult,
but in the end, HS took home the title of Ultimate Survivor. Congrats to
HS, and to SR & MD for a fantastic year. They were most certainly role
models for their classmates and found many successes throughout the year.
Each was motivated by the philosophy of being their personal best. Thank
you for a fantastic year kids!

The Final Four had a difficult box out challenge on the
overhead. The students seemed to over-think their strategies at times, but
when the dust settled, it was ol' JR who was named this week's Pack Leader.
Congrats on a long & challenging run to the final 4. He played the game
every step of the way & always gave it his best.

The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer has nothing on
this week's Pack Leader, Rootbeer. Congrats to playing an excellent
survivor game. Rarely earning any votes, he is this week's recipient of
the pack leader booty. Congrats Rootbeer!

The Fearsome 5 finds a strong survivor voted this week's Pack
Leader. Congrats to HP, winner of two straight immunity necklaces.
She played the game hard and did her best, making us all proud! Congrats.

The year keeps rolling as we are now down to the Sinister 6!
Congrats to JHoop, this week's Pack Leader. The Super 7 competed in the
dreaded ropes course. HP held onto the immunity necklace.

For whom the bell tolls, it tolls for AK, the latest pack
leader. Missing work may have done her in as the choices and voting gets
more difficult. She did however, enjoy her 2nd pack leader booty package
of a pop & candy bar. The "Elite 8" competed in the most puzzling
experience of their lives. Congrats again to AK, this week's Pack Leader &
HP for winning the immunity necklace!

The "Nifty Nine" took the first ever GPS challenge today.
The pressure was on the kids as it was a race against time to find the three
hidden geocaches, gather the contents from each, return to the starting point
and unlock the treasure chest. Against all odds, AK beat out the rest of
the pack with a phenomenal time of 11:41 seconds to bring home the immunity
necklace. She was the last contestant to complete & was feeling the
pressure this week. Congrats to Tex, glad (to a degree) to be this week's
Pack Leader.

This week's challenge was quite difficult, making the "Top
Ten" really sweat this one out. Congrats to JHas, this week's Pack Leader!
Enjoy your Pack Leader booty!

Two weeks have gone by with two new packleaders. Photos
will be forthcoming, I'm trying to set up a Flickr feed, because I've maxed out
my bandwith for this website (500 MB) and I'm already paying $14 a month, so I
need to use more free resources on the net.
Congratulations to LS & LM, our most recent Pack Leaders!

What a busy week, we had picture person, the 2007 East Lansing
Film Festival, a Mr. Meyer SENIOR "real world math" lesson, blogging, the
kick-off for March is Reading Month with Basketball Jones, and lots of fun.
Check out our pictures below. The immunity challenge went off with a few
snafu's. Unfortunately, the Pirates won, but alas, some poor choices in
the hallway during the challenge led to no immunity being awarded, so no one was
safe. Congrats to ST, this week's pack leader!

Producers of Choices & Pie Man took 3rd place and honorable
mention in the East Lansing Children's Film Festival - Congrats!
Mrs. Elliott took the challenge of shooting hoops in front of
the entire. Basketball Jones explained that every choice has rewards or
consequences, so she listened intently to his directions. She took a half
court shot and "banked" it, winning an autographed basketball, and the
admiration of students, faculty, and staff!

With a few weeks under their belts as new tribes, they've been
working to "build" trust. Today's challenge really put those relationships
to the test, in the Tower Immunity Challenge. We really needed Bob the Builder.
The pirates nearly pulled it off, but the immunity idol went home with the Horse
tribe. Congrats to AL, this week's Pack Leader.

The third annual Meyer Island idol was quite a hit. This
year's celebration was a bit different from years past. Students competed
in the Digital Dance Revolution game challenge & American Idol Karaoke
Challenge. The quickest feet in the class belong to AWick, congrats for
the fancy footwork. Many students (both boys and girls) enjoyed singing
karaoke without the "pressure" of performing in a competition format. A
good time was had by all!

We have new tribes & lots of pirates, R! Game-On
part deux.

Coming and going. Congratulations to AK, voted back into
the game by her fellow pirates, and to TB, who is leaving us to rejoin JA in
Mrs. Gregory's class.

Back In
Out
Only one week to go with original tribes, who will be our next
pack leader? Following this week, what former pack leader will be voted
back INTO the game prior to the reshuffling of tribes for 3rd quarter?
Stay tuned!
Well today's challenge was the flying monkey shoot-out.
It was close, but the skill and strength of Gold brought home the immunity for
the last Immunity challenge of the original tribes. The voting led to a
surprising revelation of a new pack leader. Congratulations AK!

Our Christmas week challenge netted Purple with the immunity
and found us with LH as this abbreviated week's Pack Leader. Enjoy your
Holiday pack leader booty!

Our class had a puzzling experience putting together a North
American puzzle. Congratulations to the Purple Tribe who won immunity
again. Congratulations to ZR, this week's pack leader.

This guy was hiding, we finally found him. Mrs.
Obnoxious put him in the corner.

This week's challenge was a mental teamwork challenge.
Tribes were given an grid & needed to complete the grid for the horizontal &
vertical data. The first time through was a practice round. The
second attempt yielded quite the competition. Congratulations to the
Copper Tribe, who retained immunity. Another big congratulations goes out
to MS, this week's Pack Leader!

Today's challenge was the slingshot shoot-out. A
near-miraculous comeback by the Black Attack tribe yielded a shared immunity
with Copper. Congratulations to KB, this week's Pack Leader. Enjoy
your booty!

Another successful Halloween celebration was partaken of by
Meyer Islanders. Check out the pics below!

_small.JPG)
Another challenge this week putting the teamwork of our tribes
to the test. This week's challenge was the Injured Teammate Rescue.
Tribes rushed to safely and quickly "rescue" their teammate. The Golden
Gladiators pulled the sweep, ala the Detroit Tigers, and won both the Spelling
Bee reward challenge, as well as, this immunity challenge. Congratulations
to EH, this week's pack leader!
_small.JPG)

JA has made a switch and left our island. Good Luck in
your future!

A first time challenge was given to the tribes this week.
The Scooter Mascot Relay tested tribes listening, teamwork, and agility skills.
Two groups missed a key instruction, which led the then "third place" team to
advance to retain the immunity for this week. Congratulations to the
Purple tribe, two weeks immunity and running! Congratulations to AWic,
this week's Pack Leader. Enjoy your comfy seat & PLOTW swag!

Our first immunity challenge was taken right from an episode of Survivor. The "Balance Beam Switcheroo" provided the
kids with a great chance to practice their problem solving, critical thinking,
communication, and cooperation skills. Each tribe that went improved it's
strategies by observing their peers. In the end, it was the sure
footed-ness of the Purple tribe that helped them take the Immunity.
Congratulations on a successful effort by all the tribes!

Congratulations to our first Pack Leader, EP! Enjoy your
PLOTW booty!

Another team building challenge this week as students finally
learned who their tribe mates would be. Each tribe is composed of six or
seven "islanders" who are developing their 4 "C's" of Meyer Island through a
variety of activities this week. Today's challenge was "Awww SHOE(t)",
which involved honing communication skills for group members. The four
tribes are working on developing their tribal nicknames. Their colors are
Purple, Teal, Gold, and Copper.

We are learning about the 4 "C's" of Meyer Island. They
are cooperation, contemplation, calculation, and communication. This week
students participated in a breakout challenge. This
challenge involved moving the ball across the gym without any students using
their hands to touch it. It took several tries, along with many different
ideas until a successful method was found! Following this challenge,
students partook of a tribal council. Each child shared how they
believed each other illustrated the 4 "C's" in completing the challenge, as well
as giving kudos to their peers.
_small.JPG)
This week's team building challenge was "Tied Up in Knots",
and wow what a result. The students worked together in their small "pods"
to get tied up in a human knot. Each group then progressively worked
themselves into tougher situations & "untied" themselves. Pods united to
create more challenging scenarios, finally the entire class created a gigantic
knot & after a few tries, they succeeded!
